London Launch of ‘Poetics of Migration’ – Lunchtime Poetry Reading for London Book Week
March 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
To celebrate London Book Week we invite you to the launch of ‘Poetics of Migration’, a powerful and important anthology of poems by poets with a connection with Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands.
‘Poetics of Migration’:
33 poets from 11 nationalities come together to describe the experience of first and 2nd generation migration and also to identify the qualities which make the City of Nottingham a vibrant and supportive environment in which to live.
The 77 poems raise important questions about social justice and how experience of oppression can echo down the centuries as well as celebrating the resilience of the human spirit and the power of words to clarify feelings and build bridges across cultures.
Supported by UKRI and grant funded through the University of Nottingham this book sheds new light on the City of Rebels and how its illustrious history of fighting against injustice is being carried forward in to the present day.
Lunchtime Reading:
Come hear the poets perform their work on themes as diverse as:
- Boarding the first class section of a train when you are not white
- An Englishman marrying a German in the wake of the 2nd World War
- The loneliness of long distance communication with family and friends overseas
- Finding meaning in life in a post-industrial City
In association with the Wiener Holocaust Library, Notts Poetry and Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum.
