Short Description
Made by his fellow internees, this satirical certificate welcomes Bernard Simon to the 'Royal Society of Deported Internees'.
Text Description

Bernard Simon came as a child refugee to Britain in 1933. He was a pupil at Anna Essinger’s school in Herrlingen and moved to England with the school at Bunce Court near Faversham. His mother Gerty, who was a famous photographer, came too.

In 1940, he was interned by the British authorities as an enemy alien and transported aboard the notorious ship HMS Dunera to Hay Camp in Australia.
