The genocide carried out against the Roma and Sinti communities of Europe by the Nazis and their collaborators during the Second World War - the persecution and murder of as many as 500,000 people - has been referred to as 'the forgotten Holocaust.
This letter, written in Esperanto, by György Meszaros describes the fate of a number of Hungarian gypsies under the Nazis. It was collected by Donald Kenrick and Grattan Puxon for their pioneering report Gypsies Under the Nazis published in 1968.
