A Christmas card sent to Dr George F. J. Bergmann, a German Jew who volunteered to serve in the French army at the outbreak of war. Following internement in the notorious prison Hadjerat M'Guil in French North Africa, he served with the British Army in North Africa, Italy and Austria from 1943-1947. Previously a lawyer, he opened a delicatessen in Australia after the war.
