When people arrived in the concentration camps, any personal items they had on them were stolen. This photo was among the items taken from Samuel Gunther, born 29 December 1897, when he arrived at Neuengamme concentration camp. Samuel died in Berlin on 29 April 1945, as a result of the mistreatment he experienced during the Holocaust.
This image is part of the International Tracing Service (ITS), a remarkable archive of over 30 million pages of Holocaust-era documents.
