Short Description
A record comprising of Yiddish songs composed by Mordecai Gebirtyk, who died in the Krakow Ghetto.
Text Description

This collection of Yiddish songs was performed and recorded in the early 1960s. Most of the songs were composed by Mordecai Gebirtyk, who was shot in the Krakow Ghetto in June 1942. Gebirtyk was an influential Yiddish poet and songwriter during the interwar period, although always in an amateur capacity. He made his living as a furniture worker and was a well-known member of the Jewish Social-Democratic Party in Krakow.

The Wiener Holocaust Library has a large audiovisual collection which we are currently in the process of digitising.
