The Holocaust Explained

The Holocaust Explained is our free open-access educational website. Designed with the British school curriculum in mind, the resource was created help learners understand the essential facts of the Holocaust, its causes and its consequences in an accessible, reliable and engaging way. Hundreds of items from the Library’s unique archive help to illustrate articles on topics from across the Nazi era, organised under nine easy-to-navigate topic areas.

In addition to the primary context, the website has numerous features including:

  • Educational resources for teachers containing contains background information, worksheets, activities and primary sources all available for download
  • Video recordings of Holocaust survivor testimony

  • A glossary of over a thousand words helping to explain difficult vocabulary and specialist terms
